Melissa Anthony Sinn, Founder & CEOMelissa Anthony Sinn, founder and CEO of anthonyBarnum Public Relations, leads a team of expert public relations strategists based in Austin, Texas. Her firm serves some of the most recognized multinational companies in the world, and innovative mid-market and emerging companies headquartered in Texas.
With 20 years of experience in public relations, the native Texan began her career in New York City where she held positions at the renowned firm Ruder Finn and spent several years as vice president of MacMillan Communications. Her PR expertise and commitment to excellence have been invaluable for clients ranging from the nation of the Czech Republic, BP, top professional services firms and leading high-growth technology companies.
In addition to driving anthonyBarnum forward, Melissa actively supports the goals of the Austin entrepreneurial and business community as a board member of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. She is a long-time board member of the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, a patron of Austin Ballet and actively engaged in veteran’s issues. She is also a member of the Executive Women’s Forum and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Amanda Abbott, Vice PresidentAmanda Abbott brings boundless energy and unequaled experience in the newsroom to anthonyBarnum’s clients. A broadcast journalist for nearly 13 years, Amanda knows news and can drive home a message. From interviewing three American Presidents to reporting from the eye of Hurricane Katrina, Amanda has covered news coast-to-coast for leading national and local broadcast stations. At anthonyBarnum, Amanda leverages her extensive media background to help companies reach their strategic public relations objectives. Her expertise includes media training, crisis management and national and local print and broadcast visibility strategies.
Prior to joining anthonyBarnum, Amanda was a reporter and anchor for CBS, ABC and FOX news. The Emmy Award winning reporter spent many years leading investigations into controversial issues. Amanda earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from Texas State University. She’s active with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. She’s also a member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).
Leslie Lord, Vice President
Leslie started her public relations career in New York City with DKC News, one of the top 10 independent public relations agencies in the country, serving clients across the hospitality, tourism and lifestyle spectrum.
While at DKC, Leslie managed fast-paced, results-driven integrated PR campaigns, securing regular placements in national media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Today Show. She planned, managed and implemented dozens of media familiarization trips for national and international clients.
After spending six years in the Big Apple, Leslie moved to Austin, drawn to the city’s great lifestyle and innovation-driven business community. Prior to joining anthonyBarnum PR, she worked at Austin-based Newton O’Neill Communications executing all aspects of PR campaigns for clients. She has also worked with clients to maximize their exposure in two of Austin’s premier annual events, South by Southwest Interactive Festival and the inaugural Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix.
At anthonyBarnum, Leslie works on high-impact public relations activities for technology, health care, aviation and professional services clientele. She develops and executes successful campaigns for clients, while overseeing and mentoring junior team members, and maintaining strong relationships with high-level media.
Leslie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and political science from Indiana University.
Dave Dix, Senior PR Specialist
Dave Dix has spent more than 25 years in corporate strategy, public relations and journalism. He was an editor at Wired Magazine, Adweek and CNET, and has written everything from features, interviews, cover stories and opinion pieces to breaking news. He has run campaigns for companies both large and small, working for tech giants such as Dell, Novell and WordPerfect. Dave is adept at crafting competitive market positions, articulating value propositions and accelerating company growth.
Matt Maurel, Account DirectorMatt Maurel specializes in creating and implementing integrated brand strategy, communication and social media strategies designed to increase meaningful engagement and positive business results. With over seven years of high-level communication and public relations experience in public relations and government administration, Matt brings his extensive background in strategic marketing and crisis management to anthonyBarnum’s clients.
At anthonyBarnum, Matt executes and oversees tactical programs and initiatives for clients in the legal, commercial real estate and technology sectors, as well as manages the day-to-day campaign activities of the firm’s junior staff in order to successfully and effectively implement campaign strategies aligned with client objectives.
Prior to joining anthonyBarnum, Matt spearheaded multiple marketing and communications campaigns for Louisiana’s Governor Bobby Jindal. Additionally, Matt led marketing and outreach efforts at the Louisiana Department of Education.
Matt graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications with a concentration in public relations.
Mikala Wright, Senior Account ExecutiveAs senior account executive, Mikala produces a broad range of PR and marketing materials of varying complexity for anthonyBarnum clients. Whether through generating strategic top tier news coverage, achieving client placement in broadcast, print and online media or placing spokespeople as commentators, Mikala works proactively to promote the profile and reputation of her clients. She is also proficient in copy editing to construct effective articles and reports, planning and coordinating media events, and researching and executing speaking and award opportunities on her campaigns.
Prior to joining the anthonyBarnum team, Mikala worked in the service industry for over five years.
Mikala graduated from Saint Edward’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies with a concentration in art and philosophy.
Kirsten Hinds, Assistant Account ExecutiveA small Texas town native, Kirsten E. Hinds headed to Austin to bring innovative ideas, creativity and energy to the anthonyBarnum Public Relations team. In Kirsten’s role as the assistant account executive, she handles content creation and editing, social media messaging and strategy, thought leadership, and mass media communications.
Prior to joining the anthonyBarnum family, Kirsten worked alongside incredible mentors throughout her previous positions. Special events, public relations and marketing build the infrastructure of her experience. As an account executive on the public relations team at an on-campus public relations firm located in Huntsville, Texas, she worked with various clients, including local businesses, nonprofits and residential complexes.
Most recently, Kirsten was a member of the marketing team at PostUp, and focused on project research, social media messaging, content creation strategy, marketing campaigns and marketing design. While at PostUp, Kirsten gained insight and experience by working with a team that handles large scale enterprise clients.
Kirsten graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication with a concentration in advertising and public relations.
Nickole Gann, Creative ManagerNickole is an accomplished designer with a unique balance of creative and technical expertise coupled with a strong portfolio in print and Web design. For more than ten years, Nickole has helped develop corporate and brand identities, as well as market positioning strategies, for organizations around the globe. Nickole understands the importance of translating a company’s long-term vision into compelling design.
Before joining anthonyBarnum, Nickole was the Digital Marketing Manager for a leading energy company. In this role, Nickole led efforts to rebrand the company, developing marketing materials and the Web site, and create a consistent social voice. Her experience ranges from designing annual reports, brochures, advertisements, catalogs, trade show materials, logos and Web sites.
